JCSGO Christian Academy (JCA) varsity tryouts commenced on May 25 with the goal of introducing a fresh start and new lineups for the school year 2026–2027, drawing the attention of aspiring local student-athletes.

The tryouts were supervised by Mr. Gerard Alejo, coach of the boys’ basketball team; Mr. Jeric Bellen, coach of the boys’ and girls’ volleyball team; Mr. Julious Lacson coach of the badminton team; and sports coordinator Ms. Aurhene Faye Binasoy.

Ms. Binasoy stated that holding tryouts now is necessary to recruit new talent and continue the school’s sports legacy.

“The main reason for the tryouts right now is to recruit a new batch of players and continue our legacy,” Ms. Binasoy shared.

To get picked, players must meet the standards of the coaches. Mr. Bellen explained that the goal is to build a new roster of players who excelled from scratch and can represent JCA for the upcoming leagues.

Besides skill, the coaches also look for players who have the school’s core values: love for the game, respect for all players, and responsibility.

Aspiring varsity players opened up about their preparation and motivations. For them, the selection process is their chance to represent the school and prove that they can compete on the big stage.

For the boys’ volleyball tryouts, Nash Salmo from Ponciano Bernardo High School (PBHS) joined and prepared through proper rest and diet to avoid getting exhausted easily during the tryout.

Chloee Bautista from the volleyball girls’ tryouts focused on overcoming her emotions and learning from experience, and used the practice sessions to boost her energy and challenged herself to surpass her limits.

“I was nervous and excited, but I’m trying my best to learn a lot from the drills. I came prepared by warming up with the varsity and boosted my energy,” Bautista stated.

Meanwhile, for AJ Suarez from the boys’ basketball tryouts, joining the team was more personal. He explained that the school gave him a second chance in life when he lost his way, and he wants to use his God-given talents to honor Him.

The momentum carried over to the badminton tryouts that were held on May 29, facilitated by Coach Julious Lacson, as participants aimed to improve their skills and earn the honor of representing JCA.

Passing the tryouts is only the beginning, once the final cuts are made, the selected athletes must start regular team practices and conditioning workouts, and also required to maintain good grades to keep their roster spots.

In return for their dedication, official JCA varsity players will receive benefits such as free school uniforms and opportunities for athletic scholarships or tuition discounts.

The release of the official lineups will be announced on the 2nd week of June.
