Bouncing back from a learning curve, the JCA Men’s Volleyball Team (MVT) secured the win in straight sets over Holy Infant Montessori Center (HIMC), 25-20, 25-18, in the 13th Itam Invitational Sportfest on February 9, at the FEU Institute of Technology Gymnasium.

After the match, Coach Austria praised his team’s ability to apply his adjustments in a post-game interview, sharing, “First set, during timeout, nagsabi ako ng adjustments, and masaya ako kasi hindi lang sila basta ‘Yes, Coach. Yes, Coach,’ ina-apply din nila sa court yung sinasabi ko.”

The initial set showcased a rollercoaster sequence, with JCA MVT’s lead being tailed by HIMC, 19-18, before Daniel Sunga and Von Tegerero delivered a close 4-0 run to end the match with a five-point lead, 25-20.

Fresh off the second set, the team’s dominance continued with a 6-0 stride, overlooking HIMC’s digs and attacks with the help of Matteo Castañeda’s kills and Marc Jagto, who poised a three-point cushion.

The men-in-white leaned on Castañeda, delivering six attacks and a block, alongside Tegerero’s four attacks and an ace, setting wipeout dubs on both sets.

The JCA MVT holds a 2-1 record in the Itams Invitational Sportfest tournament.
