
JCA MBT marches into AAPS 2024 with clean sweep, advances to Unit Meet

JCSGO Christian Academy (JCA) Men’s Basketball Team gets the dub and outlasted long-standing rival Claret School of Quezon City (CSQC), 53-49, to represent District III in the Athletic Association of Private Schools 2024 (AAPS), last friday, October 11 at Claret School of Quezon City.
The opening quarter took off with Alexander Alfaro’s dominating charge with an easy two-point basket, followed by John Lloyd Medina’s quick and easy sets, bolstering a steady momentum for JCA to close out the first quarter.
Recovering from their one-point lead, the men in blue were eager to widen the gap as King Patrick Tapulgo made a break-out in the first minutes of the second quarter, dropping four consecutive points. Closing out the first half, Medina drained his three late free throws to take the lead, 29-23.
JCA MBT’s Head Coach Gerard Alejo, stressed the importance of having self-confidence during the team huddle “Wag kayo magpapasindak, lakasan niyo loob niyo,” Alejo said providing a boost for them to trust their shot.
The second half began intense with CSQC’s surge but Tapulgo and Alfaro both amassed four points in the paint, lifting JCA to take the lead, 50-46.
The squad, along with their star player Alfaro kept their scoring rhythm, Dereck Lauzon and Bidaure were left to put the final touches in the last minute of the game to etch a victory for JCA, 53-49.
Player of the Game Alexander Alfaro spearheaded the team, unleashing an 11-point game with four rebounds and two steals for the win while Kurt Bidaure also put in the work with nine points, three rebounds, and one block, while John Lloyd Medina pitched in nine points, three assists, and a rebound.
The men in blue extended their win streak as they advanced to the unit meet in their AAPS stint.
