Ignite campus journalists Wendy Barit and Erich Joys Mares have been elected as officers of the Editors Guild District 3 in the recently held assembly on October 11.

Barit, who now serves as the Treasurer, and Mares, who takes the position of Auditor, were among the selected student leaders from various schools under the district’s organization.

Their will to lead originated from serving as Team Captains in Radio Broadcasting, Barit for Filipino and Mares for English.

The Editors Guild acts as an external association of school papers and campus journalists, aiming to develop teamwork and integrity among student writers, editors, and photographers across its specified area.

“Honestly, what motivated me was my passion for writing and my desire to help others express themselves through it,” Barit expressed in an interview.

Barit also shared that she admired how journalism allows students to express their thoughts and creativity, which inspired her to take a more active role not only as a writer and broadcaster but also as someone who could help the organization grow and make meaningful changes in campus journalism.

Echoing the same passion for leadership and inspiration, Mares shared her thoughts, aiming to show others that every student has the potential to lead.

“I will show them that every student can be a leader, kahit ano pa man yan.”

Mares said that she used to be a shy student who rarely joined activities until someone believed in her potential. She explained that this experience motivated her to become an inspiration to others, showing that if she could step up and lead, other students could do the same.
