Frequent class suspensions caused by heavy rains and typhoon threats have pushed JCSGO Christian Academy (JCA) to implement blended learning as part of its official curriculum for the entire school year.
The said modality came after a week of disrupted schedules, prompting the school to begin its pilot blended setup last Friday, July 25.
According to Ms. Marife Jagto, Assistant Principal of Academics and Admission, this system ensures students can continue learning even when in-person classes are suspended due to calamities or other emergencies.
“We consider blended learning because it allows students to continue their schoolwork from home during suspensions,” Ms. Jagto said in an interview.
“This ensures they don’t fall behind and can stay up-to-date with their lessons.”
She added that this blended modality will now be implemented as needed throughout the year, depending on announcements made by the local government and weather conditions.
To prepare for the transition, the school’s academic leaders crafted plans to avoid learning loss, while the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) leaders gave feedback to help improve the setup.
However, some challenges were encountered during the pilot day, including poor internet connectivity and technical issues, such as malfunctioning audio and cameras.
Trixia Mae Caratao from Grade 11 Shiloh shared that she felt overwhelmed when she found out about the return of blended learning, “I felt overwhelmed kasi I have to adjust ulit to a new routine,” she said.
To support students, all class instructions and materials are uploaded to Google Classroom so students affected by power or internet issues can access them anytime, with teachers ready to assist and fill in any gaps.
“This isn’t the easiest time, but with faith and unity, we’ll get through it together,” Ms. Jagto ended with a message of hope, reminding the JCA community and citing Philippians 4:13: “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”
