Grade 10 students from JCSGO Christian Academy (JCA) held a symposium showcasing innovative action plans supporting the school’s Creation Care Advocacy on September 30 at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR).

Each section introduced three distinct projects based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), a set of global objectives first introduced at the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio De Janeiro to aim for a brighter future.

Grade 10-Gracious provided initiatives plans such as ‘Empower Don’t Overpower’ that focused on SDG 16, which targets anti-bullying, ‘Box of Unspoken Feelings’ under SDG 16, which promotes mental health awareness, and ‘Plastik 2 Pera, Papel 2 Pera’ aligned with SDG 12 that advocates for responsible consumption and waste reduction.

Meanwhile, Grade 10-Victorious proposed projects, such as ‘Hope on the Horizon’ and ‘C.U.T.E.’ (Collect, Utilize, Trade, & Earn), both aligned with SDG 13 to address climate change through education and awareness, as well as ‘Project Timothy,’ connected to SDG 16, which focuses on developing future leaders to foster national progress.

Grade 10-Glorious presented ‘Trash to Treasure,’ aligned with SDG 13, teaching waste segregation, ‘The Green Classroom Project’ follows SDG 12, aimed at raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainable energy practices, and ‘Pantry for the Hungry’ targeting SDG, 2 which seeks to alleviate hunger within Junior High community and beyond.

“Many of the proposals seemed practical and feasible, making me believe they could easily be implemented in JCA. Their ideas also aligned with JCA’s existing advocacies, which would make their adoption ideal and beneficial,” Vherylle Palecpec, one of the Grade 11 attendees, stated.

Spearheaded by Ms. Suzette Lumbre, the symposium demonstrated students’ creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills, empowering them to lead meaningful conversations on issues impacting their futures.
