As part of the Technology Livelihood Education (TLE) Month Celebration, the Waste-to-Art competition was conducted, featuring creative entries from students across multiple grade levels in the Grade School (GS) and Junior High School (JHS) Department, on July 29 at 9-Mighty.

The competition showcased the creativity and environmental awareness of GS and JHS students as they transformed everyday waste into meaningful and fun artworks.

It challenged participants to gather recyclables, scraps, and other discarded items—using them to reach their desired outcome, no matter the material.

The judges, Ms. Dhana Abubo, Ms. Cristina Panahon, along Ms. Allyssa Laus scored each participant based on the given criteria after the artworks were presented to them.

The participants elaborated on their intention behind their art pieces, explaining their functions and how they support environmental sustainability and our core value, Creation Care.

“Through my artwork, I wanted to show that even trash can become something beautiful if we care enough to reuse it,” expressed Gaius Espedido, a grade 10 participant.

He also stated that through this competition, students can interpret art as a powerful way to spread awareness about environmental issues and inspire action.

Waste-to-Art is in line with JCSGO Christian Academy’s mission to advocate Creation Care, promote environmental awareness, and the 3Rs—Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle..

Rowela Melgar, a grade 10 student, also stated her feelings towards the TLE (Technology Livelihood Education) events held this month, “These experiences help JCAins build confidence, foster creativity, and inspire students to explore their talents beyond the classroom, it also encourages the students to showcase more of what they can do.”
