Congressional District (CD) 7’s John Ayein Carticiano of JCSGO Christian Academy (JCA) will bring his talent to the regional level after dominating the arnis bantamweight category at the Quezon City Division Meet on October 18 at Sta. Monica Senior High School.

Carticiano delivered the final blow in a tightly contested gold medal clash against District 1, 2-2, 3-3, 6-2.

The 16-year-old was edged by his opponent in round 1, with the advantage point given to the District 1 representative after securing the first strike. However, the JCAian arnisador’s advantage point came in handy, stealing the second round.

Carticiano then slammed the door closed for District 1 with a point surge, 6-2, advancing him to the regional level.

In his first match of the day, the JCAian arnisador clobbered his District 2 opponent in the get-go with an overwhelming start in the elimination round of the Quezon City Division Meet, 5-0, 3-2.

Carticiano’s agility and quick reflexes proved crucial despite his opponent trying to regain momentum in the second round with a 0-2 start. But Carticiano recovered and accelerated, finishing with a close 3-2 battle in the second round.

Bringing his momentum from the eliminations to the semifinals, Carticiano dominated once again. This time, against District 4, 4-0, 0-1, 5-1.

Carticiano struck a fatal blow against District 4’s representative with a 4-0 shutout, owning the first round.

District 4’s representative, prioritizing defense over offense, then won the second round, 1-0, taking advantage of the 1-minute timer.

But in the final round, Carticiano flipped the table with a 5-1 burst, which wrapped the battle up.

He expressed how arnis has shaped who he was and bringing fulfillment to his life.

“Kung wala ‘yung arnis, siguro may kulang sa sarili ko,” Carticiano expressed.

“‘Yung preparation ko naman, binabalanse ko lang ang pag-aaral at arnis ko,” he added.
