JCSGO Christian Academy became a hub of innovation and learning as teachers gathered for an AI (artificial intelligence) training workshop led by Mr. Jann Ernest Fesalbon entitled “EducAIte the Future: AInnovative Teaching with Responsible AI,” on June 3 at the audio-visual room.
The workshop aimed to equip educators with practical knowledge and tools for integrating AI in their teaching, breaking misconceptions, and sparking creativity in lesson delivery.
In an interview, Fesalbon addressed a common misconception among educators—that AI is a threat to their profession and could possibly replace them.
“Well in fact, wala pa tayo sa part na ‘yon. Sa current status ng robotics and AI sa ngayon, even in the most progressive countries, malayo pa tayo part na AI na ang papalit sa teachers.”
Consisting of four sessions, the workshop opened with teachers being assessed on their initial knowledge. Fesalbon then explained the fundamental concepts of AI and introduced various tools that can support daily teaching.
Teachers were then grouped and asked to choose a grade level and lesson topic, along with writing specific learning objectives for that lesson.
Session two focused on familiarizing teachers with specific AI tools they could integrate into their lessons and presentations.
During the session’s activity, each group selected AI tools and demonstrated how it would enhance student engagement and improve the learning experience.
In session three, the conversation shifted to responsible AI use as Fesalbon discussed the ethics of AI, including bias, digital responsibility, and the limitations of the technology. Teachers revisited their earlier lesson plans and designed teaching and assessment tasks that incorporated AI usage for the application of the session.
Lastly, in session four, the teachers were encouraged to reflect on how AI can help design more inclusive, personalized, and engaging content for learners with diverse needs.
