SHS department empowers young innovators in STEM Olympiad
By: Prince Eliang
Exceptional students from the Senior High School (SHS) Department showcased their skills in the STeM Olympiad as part of the Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Multimedia Literacy (STMML) Month celebration on November 15 at the Central Hall.
The contest challenged the students’ teamwork, cognitive abilities, and critical thinking skills through various science, technology, and mathematics questions, along with hands-on activities.
Facilitated by Ms. Mary Rose Alvarez, who served as quiz master, with the help of Ms. Trishia Mae Mendoza and the members of Spectrum Club and Multi-Media & Esports Club, the contest was structured into two parts: the Olympiad, which consisted of three rounds—easy, average, and difficult with each carrying corresponding points, and eight hands-on activities, including a coding segment where ICT students presented their skills through innovative presentations.
“It’s such a great experience—ang galing ng pagkakagawa ng mga questions lalo na sa hands on activities, nagamit namin [Cardona’s team] lahat ang critical thinking namin” said Kieth Elijah Cardona.
Cardona added that he would join again next year if there was another Olympiad because of how organized the competition was and how it allowed students to showcase their skills.
Winners of the contest will be awarded on the STMML Culminating Activity, on November 29.
