After a major break-through, the JCSGO Christian Academy’s (JCA) Badminton Girls’ Doubles claimed the championship title in a triad stand, clinching a three-set game to close their District III Meet Badminton Tournament in the Athletic Association of Private School 2024 (AAPS), on October 12 at Kalayaan Badminton Center.
JCA’s duo Arrielle Angelica Berber and Maria Renzy Rizano, shared a dominating run and outstanding teamwork against Saint Pedro Poveda College, Ateneo Blue Eagles, and Miriam College.
The first game took off with a rocky start, but Berber’s defense helped them get their tempo with a five-zero stretch, and closed the second set, 21-11.
The girls gave Poveda a good battle and executed their final set with long-sequenced rallies, finishing with a score of 11-7, and claiming the championship crown.
Berber and Rizano faced the powerhouse Ateneo Blue Eagles in their second game, charging a strong impression by taking the first set, with 21-11.
Although the duo fell short during the second set and forced a decisive third match, they rallied back and pierced through Ateneo’s defense, with Rizano’s powerful smashes, as the match was sealed, 11-8.
The duo also encountered Miriam College, knocked off a two-set 21-2, 21-6 win with an 11-0 run in the first set and then smoothly sailed their second set.
Coach Faye Binasoy shared her sentiments with the rising stars, “Sipag talaga nila yung nagdala samin dito. Malaking tulong yung training nila para punan yung mga kulang nila. Basta ang alam ko, lahat ng mangyayari dito ay dahil sa sipag at determinasyon nila.” said Coach Binasoy.
Guided by JCA’s Badminton Team Coach Binasoy, alongside Coach Poly Lapina, the Girl’s Doubles will continue their victory run as they proceed to represent District III in AAPS 2024 Unit Meet.
